Abstract

Wireless sensor networks（WSNs） are believed to be the first of the top ten technologies that will change the world in the future. However

limited computing

memory

communication capabilities

and especially the energy constraint

present major challenges.WSNs can only be deployed after many key technologies

one of which is energy issues are solved.Energy is crucial for the lifetime of WSNs.Energy consumption should be considered in the routing protocol design of WSNs.An improved method in energy consumption of GEAR protocol is proposed.Simulation results show that the improved method consume less energy.
