In order to realize shape sensing and monitoring on morphing wing flexible skin
a new method for shape sensing and reconstruction of flexible skin based on fiber Bragg grating( FBG) is proposed. The relationship between central wavelength shift of FBG and the surface deformation angle is theoretically derived. A simulation model for shape reconstruction of flexible skin is constructed The method of surface reconstruction based on curvature of tested point is studied. Curve planar reformation( CPR) algorithm is used for shape reconstruction of different deformation angle of flexible skin. The curvature of the sensing point is calculated according to the wavelength shift of FBG The surface reconstruction of and the flexibles skin profiles with different deformations angles are obtained. Experimental results show that center wavelength shift value of FBG sensor is linearly related to the deformation angle of flexible skin. The surface reconstruction method for FBG is suitable for sensing monitoring of flexible skin
and it has potential applications in variant vehicle morphing wing shape monitoring.
