Glass fiber reinforced polymer(GFRP)material is widely used in aerospace
pipeline and other engineering fields because of its favorable characteristics including light weight
high strength
corrosion resistance and good electrical insulation
etc.Due to severe environments
it is prone to the localized material loss(LML)resulting from impact
which undermines the structural integrity of GFRP.Therefore
it is imperative to detect and evaluation LML in GFRP via effective nondestructive testing(NDT)methods.Compared with other NDT techniques
microwave NDT has the advantages in terms of high sensitivity
non-contact and efficient inspection without coupling agent
etc.Feasibility of microwave NDT of LML in GFRP in conjunction with microwave reflectometry is intensively investigated through experiments. The experimental results confirm the validity of microwave reflectometry for the visualization and quantitative evaluation of LML in GFRP.
