In order to solve the difficulty in evacuating traffic congestion which is easy to cause accumulated congestion under supersaturated traffic status

a regional adaptive control method at the intersection is proposed.Coordinated control between adjacent junctions and determination of the optimal phase release plan is achieved by concerning about the traffic conditions of both current intersection and adjacent intersection. Comparing with traditional control schemes

the evacuation of vehicles from congested area to non-congested area is accelerated and inhibit accumulation of vehicles from perimeter to the congested area which effectively alleviates congestion accumulation and shortens travel time. In non-supersaturated situation

traffic capacity can also be effectively improved.
