Road surface icing is diffcult to be detected by a single sensor because it is uneven and with great thickness. A road surface icing detection system is developed

which consists of piezoelectric diaphragm icing sensors that is sensitive to thin ice

fiber-optic icing sensors that can measure thick ice

temperature sensors and image sensors. The system can detect road surface icing within 10 mm

and measurement precision can reach0. 2 mm at range of 0

5 mm and 0. 5 mm at range of 5

10 mm.
