The application of the pipeline inspection gauge(PIG)in oil and gas pipelines for long-distance transportation is gradually maturing. However
the velocity of the existing PIG is basically calculated from data collected by an odometer. There are errors in the data collected by an odometer
and the errors accumulate with the increase of working distance. In this paper
the velocity sensor of the PIG based on a solid-liquid triboelectric nanogenerator(SL-TENG)is designed. The relationship between the velocity and the motion frequency of the TENG velocity sensor(VS-TENG)is judged by the transmission device. The feasibility of the VSTENG converting mechanical energy into electrical energy is verified by the simulation and material modification for the VS-TENG
experiments and durability tests at different frequencies and temperatures. The function relating the generated current and velocity is fitted
which proves the feasibility of the VS-TENG as a velocity sensor and provides a new reference and idea for the velocity measurement of the PIG.
